The acquisition of Gomez along with forward Tom Pyatt and defenceman Michael Busto from the Rangers, was concluded with Higgins as well as Ryan McDonagh, Pavel Valentenko and Doug Janik going the other way. Higgins, of course was rumoured in many trade scenarios last season, will be moving closer to his home in Long Island, New York.
Gomez's $8 million contract that is good through 2013-14 does take some bite out of the Canadiens' cap and there is speculation that perhaps this may or may not be step one in a two step trade. Time will tell. Soon.
