Last Show on CJLO This Sunday!

It comes with mixed feelings of sadness and excitement that The Franchise are announcing that our last show on CJLO 1690 AM will air this Sunday, August 30th. We have worked very hard over the last 20 months to deliver some of the best sports talk commentary show on the Montreal airwaves, and we could not have done it without the support and encouragement from the CJLO staff and our fans! Fear not however, Nick Murdocco and Gary Whittaker are not closing up shop! Stay tuned to the new website, www.thefranchise.ca, as we announce what's next for Nick and Gary within the next couple of weeks.

Please join us this Sunday as we bring back some of our favourite guests one last time. The Franchise, Sunday August 30th, starting at 8:30am, and will not end until Nick starts singing!

WEEKLY HABit: Is there ever really an off season for the Montreal Canadiens? Making headlines this week is Georges Laraque, but for all the wrong reasons. Nick Murdocco goes after BGL again, but this time Gary Whittaker steps up in his defence. We also give you an update on the now former Habs who are still looking for a new home, and answer some fan mail we received during the week.

Franchise Weigh In: Mitch Mayberger returns bearing the gift of one of Quebec's top MMA prospects in Mike Ricci. However, before Nick salivates all over Ricci, we spend time reviewing Ringside II - Rage Series with Mitch Mayberger. We then spend time talking to Mike about his upcoming fight at Ringside III, his rising star status, and much more. Gary Whittaker previews UFC 102 as an add-on to the podcast.

Montreal Alouettes Weekly: Another win, another easy segment for The Franchise! Or not. Always seeing the glass as half empty with regards to the Als, Gary Whittaker exposes what appears to be a chink in the Alouettes' armour. Of course, Nick Murdocco has to take the other side, but also points out some key milestones attained in their match against Saskatchewan.

Deep Impact: Are the Montreal Impact MLS bound? Right now they are too focused on trying to make the USL playoffs! Not only do Nick Murdocco and Gary Whittaker look at last week's win against Cleveland, they also break down the playoff situation as only 7 games remain in the regular season.

WEEKLY HAB-it: Always looking to take on just about anybody, this week, Nick and Gary set their sites  on The Hockey News, who have rated the Canadiens as the 8th best team in the east. From there, we weigh in on who should be the next captain of the Canadiens. It's 30 minutes loaded with the kind of goodness that only The Franchise can deliver!

Franchise Weigh In: With Ringside II set for next Saturday, August 22nd, The Franchise interviews main event fighter Chris "The Menace" Clements, as well as the man who put it all together, Ringside Matchmaker Alex Caporicci. We also review Strikeforce: Carano vs Cyborg.

Deep Impact: After going 1-2-0 this week, combined with the news that the Impact's move to the MLS by 2011 is not as guaranteed as Nick thought it would be, Gary and Nick try to find the bright spots for the Impact who are entering the latter stretch of the season.

WEEKLY HABit: Carey Price is back, and Martin has gone out of his way to talk to him. Nick and Gary look at what Carey Price means to the Montreal Canadiens this season. We also discuss what the former Habs may have meant, given that most of them have yet to find a new home.

Franchise WEIGH IN: With guest Jeremy Rubin, Nick and Gary review the main card from UFC 101. We also air the interview we did this week with Ringside President Éric Champoux. Eric talks about Rinside II that will be happening on August 22nd, and has a few major announcements regarding the third event in September! In the podcast, we include the interview we had with Derek Leblanc, as we previewed AFC 4 in depth.

The Franchise August 2nd Show Podcast

Weekly HABit:

It's never a dull moment in Montreal as far as the Canadiens are concerned. Nick Murdocco and Gary Whittaker review the latest trade rumors, this time involving a potential 3 way trade with San Jose and Ottawa. Nick also feels the need to continue "egging" on Big Georges Laraque on his switch to Veganism. We look at how the latest acquisitions made by Gainey impact BGL's role on the team, and lots more.

Franchise Weigh In:

We interview two fighters who will face each other on August 22nd at Ringside II in Sean "Pimp Daddy" Pierson and Jason Rorison. We also interview Yves "Tiger" Jabouin who will be making his WEC debut in September (we apologize for the audio issues that we had during this interview).

MMA Manager Mitch Mayberger makes yet another guest appearance, helping us break down UFC 101. We also look at the latest news from the UFC and their contract negotiations. The conversation got a little heated, and it continued out into the parking lot of CJLO. Not to worry though, Gary was too tired from the walk to get physical with Mitch.

The Franchise July 19th Show Now Podcast Ready

Weekly HABit: In response to your demand, Nick and Gary supersized this segment to a full hour. We take a look at all the key dates in the newly released 2009-2010 schedule for the Montreal Canadiens, including encounters with Ottawa (Kovalev), Toronto (Komisarek)...you get the point. The Canadiens are looking at playing a game at Olympic Stadium. We look at the Canadiens that have still gone unsigned and why, and at the recent signings of Latendresse and others.

The Weigh In: We invited Manager Mitch Mayberger to talk about his fighter, Yves Jabouin's  recent signing with the WEC. We take a look back again at UFC 100, and discuss the impact of Lesnar's post fight actions. Lastly, we continue to break down all the latest news and notes on the local, and international combat sports scene.

The Franchise July 5th Show

Weekly HABit: The Franchise boys, Gary and Nick, are joined by Nick's other family, The Hockey Family that is! Shaan and Faisal have been notorious in their ability to incite Gary into verbal hostility in their anti-Gainey rhetoric. Will it happen again? We cover all the trades, free agents signings, and free agent "un-signings" related to your Montreal Canadiens!

Franchise Weigh In: The house was packed! We had such a great time with Adam Reid, Mitch Mayberger, and regular guest Jeremy Rubin, that we brought them all back into the house again to see if they could be as funny as they were last week. Adam talked about the party you must be seen at to celebrate the launch of his new website, the NAPA autoparts race cross Canada, and lots more. Mitch Mayberger bribed his way onto the mic, and did not disappoint, and Jeremy Rubin was on hand to close off the show. We previewed UFC 100, had a MOCK interview with GSP, and talked about Fight Quest 8 as well.
